Experience. Mike clearly has a background and 'hands on' experience that cannot be beat including: residential and commercial building design; new construction including fifteen yeasr as a journeman mason; disaster restoration insurance related repair; and over 18,000 residential and commercial building inspected since 1993.
Mike's years as a journeyman mason help him separate minor foundation settlement and cracking from major structural foundation defects.
Mike and Martha work together as a team to move through a building in a reasonable amount of time. They communicate electronically throughout the process to make certain they are covering all the bases.

Michael Bryan attended and graduated from the Professional Home Inspection Institute in April of 1993 and passed The National Home Inspectors Examination on September 16, 2000.
The Commonwealth of Virginia did not begin to certify and regulate home inspectors until July 2017. State certification was voluntary for several years before that date, but Mike was against state certification believing that it adversely affects membership to national certified professional home inspector associations, which in fact it does.
The Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR) regulates the home inspection profession by setting the minimum educational and expereincial requirements to become a home inspector and The Minimum Requirements in Conducting A Home Inspection. The Commonwealth of Virginia also has the power to revoke or suspend the license of a home inspector or impose sanctions due to violations of those standards. But state certification does not really promote professionalism. It governs through the fear of punishment.
Professional home inspector associations on the other hand are a fellowship of home inspectors. Such organizations often have routine in person meetings and maintain online forums where professionals can colaborate to share their knowledge and experience and inspire newer inspectors to become their best. Online forums are especially useful because they motivate inspectors to become good writers using concise grammatically correct language.
As Mike feared, many home inspectors, after state certification, let their membership to such associations go and new inspectors don't recognize the value in membership to them. We feel very strongly that hiring a home inspector that is a member of one of the national professional home inspector associations, is the best interest of anyone purchasing real estate.
Mike was originally certified as a home inspector through The National Association of Home Inspectors (NAHI). He was the third NAHI Certified Home Inspector (NAHI-CRI) in the The Commonwealth of Virginia. When NAHI was dissolved, Mike became a member the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) and was reciertified throught that association. Mike is currently certified by The Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR) since 2017 and InterNACHI® (The Inter-National Association of Certified Home Inspectors) also since 2017. He has also been a member of and The Virginia Association of Real Estate Inspectors (VAREI) since its inception. Mike has personally inspected over 18,000 buildings since 1993.
